Mark McArthur-Christie - Magic Numbers in Road Safety
In July we had a change of pace from hurtling around a track to thinking about what the
authorities are doing with all the money they take from us, and whether they "could do better"!
Mark McArthur-Christie is one of the UK's leading spokesmen on trying to get some sense into
transport policy in general, and roads in particular. You've probably not noticed, but you
will often have seen him on your television commenting on the latest "bright idea" that
someone has had, apparently to improve safety or traffic flow.
Before you all go yawn, yawn he is also a very entertaining as well as a thought-provoking
speaker - and of course he lives in Oxfordshire!
Mark is the Director of Policy of the Association of British Drivers, The Chairman of the
Oxford Area Group of Advanced Motorists, and a founding member of Two Wheels Better,
the motorcycle think-tank. He actually prefers two wheels, believing that free parking,
the ability to filter through traffic and the lack of a front number plate are all useful
assets!
By day he is a partner at
Freeman Christie, a
commercial communications consultancy.
