Malcolm Elder - The Classic Car Movement Today
Our October meeting was a talk by Malcolm Elder. Malcolm has been
involved with Vintage and Classic vehicles for a long time, both
as enthusiast and businessman. He gave a short talk and
answered questions.
Malcolm learned to drive (in a vintage Humber 14/40) 50 years ago
and has been a vintage car enthusiast ever since. He actively
participates in and organises motoring events. For example he has
organised the VSCC Driving Tests every December for the last 30
years. Not only that, but they take place near us at Westcott
near Aylesbury.
His business, Malcolm C Elder & Son was established in 1971. The
firm sells veteran, Edwardian, vintage, thoroughbred and classic
cars & motorcycles. Malcolm's enthusiasm has passed on to his two
sons who have also joined the business. They are therefore, able
to talk about the cars that they sell with a great deal of
experience, as well as offer advice on maintenance, insurance and
relevant clubs to those joining the old car movement for the first
time.
Their premises (The Motor Shed) are located at the village of
Steeple Aston and often house over one hundred wonderful motor
cars. They have a wide range of stock from veteran to late
classics and try to cover a budget to suit every pocket. For
example, at the moment their stock list includes a 1910 Cadillac,
a 1925 Lagonda, a 1937 Bentley, a 1952 Daimler, a 1976 Ferrari, a
1996 Tyrrell F1 car and a number of Jaguars, including a couple of
E-Types.
