Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club Racing is entering its tenth season so it was very fitting that
we heard all about it at our February meeting. Terry & Pam Dye have been running JEC
Racing all that time so we were guaranteed an interesting evening. Terry illustrated his
talk with footage of some of the races.
The racing goes back to 1998 when a race was held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the XK 120.
A large number of XKs took to the track and following this a series of eight races was run in 1999.
Additionally two trackdays were held at Mallory Park where 180 JEC members were professionally
coached and let loose on the circuit in their road cars. Thus JEC racing was born.
There are now four championships for: XKs, XJSs, Saloons and a class called "Powered By Jaguar",
with around 750 people involved and different classes within each championship.
2007 proved the best season ever with some 50 races, the Birkett Six Hour Challenge, and some drivers even taking their cars to Daytona, USA for a terrific weekend's racing combined with a holiday. All the races were fiercely fought throughout the whole season with the results going down to the last race.
The overall winners were Trevor Groom (XK Championship), John Lock (XJS Championship), Chris Boon (Saloons) and Lawrence Coppock (Powered by Jaguar).
2008 is the tenth anniversary of JEC Racing and promises to be an outstanding year. Saloon & XJS
grids continue to flourish with more new drivers joining. As part of the XK 60th Anniversary there
will also be celebrations at Cowdray Park and Goodwood on 8th - 10th August.
These events, coupled with around 55 races should be enough to please everyone!
